My brain is incapable of processing this information. A Therm-a-Rest Z-Seat now sells for $33 USD on Amazon.
It is a piece of foam slightly more than a foot square. For thirty-three dollars. That's insane.
I have owned and used Therm-a-Rest products for decades. I am, in fact, sitting right now on the Therm-a-Rest BaseCamp mattress that has been my bed at home for over 6 years, now.
Ever since the pandemic, Therm-a-Rest's pricing has inflated into the stratosphere. You could have argued that it was a surge in demand couples with supply chain constraints in the Summer of 2020, but in 2023, it's pure price gouging.
I don't think I will ever again be buying any products from Therm-a-Rest.
I just ordered a similar generic closed cell foam pad from Amazon for $2.99 (with free non-Prime shipping), which is all that the Z-Seat should cost.
I paid $52.46 plus tax for my BaseCamp in 2017. Today, this same pad sells for $99.95. I don't know about you, but my income did not increase by nearly 100% in the past 6 years.
BLS data says CPI inflation between July 2017 and July 2023 has amounted to about 24.88%.
